Artificial Intelligence vs. Human

Artificial intelligence is growing fast!

As of late, I’ve discovered that many organizations have been executing the utilization of artificial intelligence (AI). Though it is far from new, it is definitely growing all over. At its most profound sense, it has been around for quite some time now — its scholarly roots were originated from Greek mythos. Unquestionably, AI is progressing quickly, with important innovations alternating from virtual assistants (eg: Google Assistant or Apple’s Siri) to forgery recognition. It has played a key impact in our daily lives.

As indicated by CB Insights (2017), over 30 AI organizations have been procured in just the first quarter of 2017 alone. Obviously, there’s a significance for AI and its capacity to enhance the human involvement, regardless of the negative response from cynics of AI’s mishap. Unmistakably, organizations that put resources into AI should always proactively anticipate for unexpected outcomes.

In fact, AI offers plenty of conceivable possibilities as well as risks. As quoted by Yoshua Bengio (2017) Head of Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms and a professor from the University of Montreal, he mentioned that “AI will have a great impact on the economy and additional change in humanity, and it will be difficult to make solid forecasts but employment in the market certainly will be influenced”. So, will it be influenced in a good or bad way?

What do researchers think if artificial intelligence takes over our (marketers) jobs?

With all these, I’m curious as to which if AI can replace marketers in the future? I’ve been intrigued by it thus, exploring further into this. One thing I’ve noticed about every one of these articles regarding AI is that there is a similarity inside every one of these authors and among them, their conclusion is a ‘NO’, AI will not replace marketers. Why?

Based on the research made by them, it is believed that in the long run certain jobs will undoubtedly be automated, however, the safe jobs are those that are dependent on the human ingenuity that AI cannot mimic with pre-programmed and predictable code. While AI marketing and automation technologies enable marketers to find more information about their customers as well as diminishing the amount of time spent on mechanical tasks, it is unlikely that they can supplant the human touch that effective marketing requires (Tjepkema, 2017). According to Arm Worldwide (2017), AI is fighting with 1’s and 0’s and at the same time, it still lacks the perfect algorithm for a marketing strategy.

Taking Salesforce, for instance, this organization shows a role in embodying its abilities and the future of AI. Over the traverse of 2 years, Salesforce has obtained 3 AI organizations and recently revealed Einstein for Salesforce, their AI service. Their latest activity that involves a group of 175 data scientists, utilizes machine learning to assist employees to perform tasks more efficiently by streamlining and speeding it up. Additionally, Einstein will likewise be accessible to customers who can construct their own applications (Salesforce, 2017).

My research! My Debate!

Based on my personal opinion, I beg to differ.

I believe AI can replace marketers as I did some intriguing research about OpenAI. OpenAI, the billion-dollar AI lab backed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk just divulged a new virtual world. It’s called Universe, and it’s a virtual world like no other. This is not a digital playground for humans instead, it is a school for artificial intelligence. It’s a place where AI can comprehend to do pretty much anything. When AI can mimic a human, they will become greater than human as they learn through trial and error patterns, that’s where they grow to become better (Metz, 2016).

And here is where I strongly believe that AI can bring many benefits to the lives of human and soon before you know it, it can replace a lot of jobs such as; marketers. According to Burrows (2016), they have been studying the human brain to which why it is so good at learning, and by utilizing the data of how the brain learns it will help to design AI systems that can translate, analyze, and learn information as effectively as humans. For AI to think like a human, the computer algorithms for learning has to be as complicated as the human brain. Therefore, Harvard researchers have stated that they will record the brain’s visual cortex activity in unprecedented detail, outline its connections at a scale never before attempted, and figure out the data into AI. Researchers have also found out the fundamental principles governing on how the brain learns in the first half of their research thus, it’s not hard to imagine that eventually human will be able to design AI systems that can match, or even outperform, humans (Burrows, 2016).

Conclusion

In a nutshell, AI will definitely be the trend and will influence human lives. Of course, it will replace certain jobs which marketers will be one of them and this is what I strongly believe in. Why say so? Even though AI is not fully developed yet, it has already helped us humans in many ways, what’s more when AI have their own conscious and can think like a human. Agrawal (2017) stated that for an organization to be more competitive compared to their competitors, they have to implement AI now even if it is not ready completely this will help to keep up the trend when AI is fully recognized among humans.

Humans are so smart to the point that could create something that has more intelligence than us, Isn’t it scary?

  1. If I am the owner of an organization, and AI could help me can help me with my work it will definitely make things easier. I will feel very sorry for my employees, but not all will be replaced, probably there will still be 1 or 2 for backup! My point is, is AI really reliable? I think we can’t answer that question yet.

    1. Yes, i do not disagree on what you said but as of now, many companies are venturing towards AI and that it is the forefront of the future because of the things that they can achieve! we should always give everything a chance, don’t you think so?

  2. AI is surely the topic in the past, present, and in the future. Personally, I agree with you that AI can replace people’s jobs in some ways, but I don’t think AI can replace jobs like marketers or other creative-oriented jobs. The algorithm of AI is not that developed yet to be able doing these difficult tasks as a real human being. Maybe one day AI can perform just like us and be used commonly globally. However, I believe it will be at least after another century to see this phenomenon.

    1. Initially, I had the same thinking as you before I did my research, but after my research, I believe that AI can do so much more than we expect! It won’t be another century but I really believe that it can happen in the next few years. A good example would be Sophia the 1st ever AI to receive a citizenship in Saudi Arabia.

  3. AI can definitely replace some of fundamental jobs, but I think it can’t replace creative:) Creative comes from people’s life experience, feelings, or emotions. For now, I do not think the technology gets to that point yet and I do not want to see it happen too. It is creepy to have AI that can think and feel like a human being. When that happens, there will be bunch of issues such as whether AI enjoys the same right as human…

    1. I think it will sooner or later happen! Look at Sophia the 1st ever AI to receive a citizenship in the middle east, that a lot of people are struggling to get.

  4. Well AI is certainly a great addition in the future and i personally looking to see how will AI simplify our lives but i strongly disagree as of AI will replace us Marketer. Marketing is a very personal subject no matter how far AI will go it will no replace replace marketing jobs because human emotion is something that is unique and no AI could understand it. Marketing is a very interesting subject and it has definitely come a very long way, an AI could data mining better than us Human and also could create a better targeting towards consumers but i do not think AI could execute a good and creative advertising plan.

    1. Yes, AI might not as be creative as marketers for now, but within my post, ‘Harvard researchers have stated that they will record the brain’s visual cortex activity in unprecedented detail, outline its connections at a scale never before attempted, and figure out the data into AI’. From this, if it succeeds AI can outperform humans in any creative possible way. It hasn’t happened yet, but it doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

  5. I believe that human can make AI work as human do but that day won’t come too soon. First, the development of AI will lead to the increase of unemployment and many countries may not make it happen. Also, in developing countries, the cost of labor is lower, unless they have a big business scale to support automation, they are not willing to introduce AI solution.

    1. It’s not our choice to choose. If AI replaces a lot of jobs, countries will have to face the change, especially for developing countries because not adapting to changes might be obsolete from the world. AI is to replace mostly skilled workers instead of unskilled workers. So the cost of labor would not apply if AI replaces professional jobs (marketers).

  6. By the time AI can have their own consciousness, it’s probably in the next lifetime.
As for now, let’s leverage on jobs that require human touch and creativity and make the best out of it.

  7. We cannot deny the impressive things AI can do today from IBM Watson Cognitive to Google AlphaGo beats world best “Go” player. The technology can only go so far at this point, AI needs data, content and a delivery framework to work. If bad data in, and you’ll still end up with poor results out. Data sources and use cases are important for AI to generate meaningful insight. For now, I believe AI can replace certain tasks perform by marketer but not the entire role of a marketer. I do agree big organisations should start implementing AI now even if it is not ready completely as AI will help to increase productivity in the workplace to some extent.

    1. Yes, I agree that good data has to be delivered to AI only then you will get the best result. Actually, you can treat AI as a newborn baby, whatever kind of knowledge you teach they will learn it.

  8. AI’s development has progressed rapidly over the years but I may not wish to see them replacing jobs as the difference between them and humans are our human touch. AI can help in many other ways such as one that was introduced by Tanmay Bakshi in which it is a system that interprets brain wave into words to allow communication on people with neurological disability.

  9. I believe that AI will replace sooner than we expected. I am not a professional in Tech, but I do have interest in Tech stuff. Recently, ‘DOTA’ (famous online strategy game) came out with an open AI that learns how players play. After a few games, the AI learns the strategies and won the top player in the game. Yes, you may say that AI still needs to collect data, but so do we humans. From the day that we were born and until the day we die, we are still learning and collecting data when we face something new. AI does need to collect data as well, and the advantages for them is that once they learn they will never forget! Unless you cut down the power!

    1. This is interesting! Definitely, I will find out about this as I’ve played DOTA before, but have never come across this new open AI that they developed!

  10. The very idea of creating an AI is to make the lives of humans easier. One huge advantage is that machines, unlike humans, do not require frequent breaks and refreshments. They are programmed for long hours and can continuously perform without getting bored or distracted or even tired.

    1. Yes! AI is deemed to handle most task when given to them! And most importantly, they won’t make the same mistake twice, unlike humans! From a marketers point of view, this is an advantage to us!

  11. Thank you for sharing! I believe AI can definitely help us in so many ways, they are designed to help our lives better. However, I think the balance between AI and human labour’s mutual benefits is also important for us to value 🙂

  12. No doubt , AI can be very useful and even smarter than human being. But In the end of the day I still think the invention of AI is just to assist not replace .Because human interactions are the fundamental in current society .

    1. As I’ve mentioned earlier, many jobs may be replaced by AI but, at the same time, I believe that there will be other job roles that require human to operate.

  13. AI may take marketers jobs, but I supposed is that only data-related and SEO-related; however, it won’t occupy those activities referred to creativities! Personally, if marketers are brainstorming new ideas for new advertisements for companies, then AI is difficult to do so, simply because in this case, marketers are artists to some degree, it’s challenging for AI to create another new patterns of ART or ADVERTISEMENT from my perspective!
